A Journey Through Scotland’s Five Whisky Regions In this guided tasting, explore the distinct character of Scotland’s whisky-producing regions and taste how landscape and tradition shape every dram. . From the peaty depths of Islay to the delicate sweetness of the Lowlands, each pour reveals how geography, climate, and craftsmanship create Scotch’s remarkable diversity of flavor and style. Total Time: 2 Hours 1. Introduction to Single Malt Scotch (10 minutes) Guests are welcomed into the world of single malt Scotch—crafted from 100% malted barley, distilled at a single distillery, and shaped by the landscapes, climates, and traditions of Scotland. Participants are introduced to the TasteIST flow, adapted for Single Malt Scotch: Observe → Breathe → Settle → Release → Trace This segment also provides a concise orientation to the five SWA-recognized whisky regions and the unique character each brings: Highland (including the Islands) Lowland Speyside Campbeltown Islay Note: All whiskies for this workshop are mutually agreed upon prior to the session and must be provided by the host. 2. Guided Tasting Flight — Five Regional Single Malts (75 minutes) Participants explore a curated lineup of single malts, one expression from each region. Through guided tasting, guests discover how geography, distillation style, cask choices, and maritime influence create the signature profiles that distinguish one region from another. Subtle contrasts in sweetness, spice, smoke, and texture become clearer as each expression unfolds. 3. Regional Sensory Mapping (20 minutes) Guests use a Five-Region Flavor Card to map their sensory impressions across key dimensions: sweetness fruitiness smoke intensity maritime notes oak influence overall finish style By comparing their notes, participants see which regional profiles align most naturally with their palate—and how their preferences might shift across the spectrum of Scotch styles. 4. Flavor Trace & Closing Reflections (15 minutes) Each guest selects their preferred regional expression and completes a Flavor Trace, noting three key moments of the whisky’s journey: first contact, mid-palate, and finish. The session concludes with shared reflections, personal discoveries, and guidance on how to continue exploring Scotland’s whisky landscape with greater confidence and clarity.
